Now Sprouting: OnBoard, a Streamlined PR Program for Climate Tech Startups

Redwood has been lucky to work with a diverse mix of clients over the course of our first 23 months of existence. We’ve supported small and large companies, venture capital firms, tech incubators, and nonprofit organizations, each with its own unique approach to curbing the climate crisis.

As Redwood’s CEO, I’ve also had the privilege to meet and discuss strategic communications with many other fascinating and innovative climate tech companies (one of my favorite parts of this job!) who did not become clients. In many cases, the impediment to collaboration was a small budget for investing in strategic communications services. But many of those same companies are aware of the value of good strategic comms and/or had important comms plans like announcing an emergence from stealth or the closing of a Series A investment round.

After encountering this dilemma more and more often over the last few months, I began to ask myself, how can Redwood meet the needs of startups with promising climate solutions and smaller budgets? The answer: OnBoard by Redwood a new offering for climate tech startups that we’re launching today!

We borrowed the concept from our sister agency SBS, which launched its own version of OnBoard for tech startups in January (and picked up some coverage from Axios) and has seen the program yield great results for clients so far.

The idea behind OnBoard by Redwood is simple: it’s a light touch of deep expertise that empowers climate tech startups with small budgets to ramp up strategic comms or public relations programs in-house. For $5k per month, OnBoard clients get access to all of the Redwood team’s expertise and experience, along with valuable information and as-needed guidance and support as they execute campaigns themselves.

I’m excited about OnBoard because it expands the field of intrepid and passionate climate tech founders and teams that we can work with. For founders, OnBoard opens up a new pathway for planning and executing sophisticated media relations and brand development campaigns while learning the basics of corporate messaging, communications strategy, and other important practice areas.

So if you’re a climate tech founder considering professional comms support or just curious, contact us—we’d love to hear from you. Onward to more climate progress!
